New LLiureX 9.09 (beta) version
Following the LliureX version policy, the corresponding LliureX adaptations for the next year 2009-2010 will be available soon. In July, the Classroom Model and Desktop beta versions will be available and in September, the other LliureX adaptations.
This new LliureX version is based on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid and means the consolidation of LliureX with this distribution.
LliureX 9.09 has improved its behaviour and use, as well as the translation; errors have been corrected, more educational applications have been added and so on.
Concretely and regarding the general aspects, LliureX 9.09 has:
- New Kernel 2.6.2.7 with support for servers with RAM memory greater than 4GB.
- New management of the Kernel modules using the tool dkms (a Kernel modules compilation system).
- New Cpackages:
- llxcfg-armor: blocks the aplications since they are not allowed to read the configuration files of another application without the corresponding permission.
- llxcfg-guard: manages at a low level all the profiles of the parental supervision tool LliureX Guard.
- llxcfg-nm: solves general errors generated by the Ubuntu network manager.
- llxcfg-httpd-lite: allows to install Apache in a Desktop to be able to install a Moodle without installing a complete LliureX server.
- New tool LliureX-Express for the desktop versions (Desktop, Pre-schools and Lite) with the quick post configuration of specific LliureX services.
- New menu entry ?Applications? to elaborate Educational Digital Objects (EDO). It includes the tools: eXe, to develop the resource itself; FreeMind, to make conceltual maps; and GTK-recordmydesktop, to make videos.
- Desktop version GNOME 2.24
- Improved hardware support for: Modems 3G, wi-fi cards and graphic cards.
The included applications are:
- OpenOffice 3.0.1
- Firefox 3
- F-spot: image visualizer and organizer for the GNOME desktop.
- Kompozer: Web editor. Kamik Barckport, 0.8 alpha version.
- Gobby: collaborative editor.
- Instalador de fuentes: lliurex-fonts-installer allows the installation of TRUE TYPE fonts.
- Pyromath: tool to create Math exams with key.
- Control de aula LliureX: tool for teachers, based on TCOS, to control the students activity at the computer classroom. With support fot light clients and classroom clients.
- LliureX-Lab: language lab application that lets teachers to broadcast audio and/or video, to send audio conference, chats and so on.
